Foreword: In many countries you have to be at 18 years of age or older to be allowed to watch pornography / adult movies. So we have to skip the best bits and pieces, because we can not guarantee, that only adults are reading this review.
What new fact shall I present to you, because this movie uses the same boy-meets-girl method as each other movie of that kind, BUT in front of the breahttaking backdrop of Tahiti and Bora-Bora. The backdrop benefits this movie and leaves a good and aesthetic impression.
Island Fever 3 seamlessly fits into the series of Joone movies, all of which are made on a high and artistic level. The handsome actors and actresses make their own stylish contribution to the overall appearance of the movie, but any of you should decide that for yourselves, and none of you can tell me not to have seen a porn movie in his/her whole life.
The full digtial editing of this HD-filmed movie is visible in each frame. Although the anamorhpic NTSC-version raised the bar to a high level, the WMV-HD bonus-DVD is able to to trump it, as you can see in our screeshots.
The 720p progressive video (1280x720 pixels) at 24 frames per second just needs 6.5 out of 6.9Mbit, which is lower in camparison to other WMV-HD movies like High-Def.de's with average rates of 8 - 9 MBit, but it seems to be enough to display a fine, detailed and nearly sharp and colourful images. Nevertheless, a DVD-9 with a storage capacity twice as high as the DVD-5 which was used here, and with that an increased bitrate would have been worth considering.
Even like this the images are so detailed, that stretched skin due to silicon implants is visible. These "pregnancy stretches" are not that clearly visible in the NTSC-version .
A lot of TV and movie stars are afraid of HDTV, because blemishes are more obvious and have to be more camouflaged and covered ("HDTV has make up artists and stars scrambling"). But the higher definition does not harm the beauty of this lady (for my part, I can tell you from experience that I do not like these stretches).
All of this is helped by the characteristic peculiarities of the porn genre itself, because there are a lot of scenes with low movement backgrounds and the major action takes place in the foreground and is caused by the protagonists. Also, there are just a few pan shots and jerks in the video, characteristic for "jerk-off movies”. The progressive scanning prevents combing or a stair effect, but some scenes appear to be soft and blurry, especially in wide shots, but given the "low" bitrate it is acceptable and you won't ever turn to the background, because the main action takes place in the front.
Also related to the bitrate are the few appearances of artefacts in fades and cuts, which are hardly recognizable. There is no image noise, because of a completely digital production chain (and because the style of that movie did not cause it on purpose) and it was not scanned/mastered from celluloid film. The more natural colours in contrast to the NTSC-version complete the overall positive impression.
Audio
The first thing catching the eye, or in this case "ear", is the fact, that there is absolutely no word spoken, just atmospheric music and typical island sounds are coming from the speakers. For that reason, it is not a surprise that there is just one soundtrack (in English, or let me call it the language of love) and it is just a stereo track. A comparison with the NTSC-version reveals a 5.1 surround Dolby Digital (AC3) soundtrack, which is definitely to be preferred to the stereo 2.0 WMA soundtrack. So I do not understand, why they didn’t at least use a 5.1 WMA soundtrack.

Extras
The only feature, which could be called an extra in the broadest sense is the DVD-menu and the included chapter navigation menu. At first glance, that is really not much, but in fact that HD-version is the actual extra of the double DVD set.
DRM
Contrary to other already available WMV-HD movies this one is not protected/secured by a DRM mechanism or region code. As you might be used to from previous DVD’s, there is a licegen.exe attached to the DVD, but it is not required. As a result, the movie is also playable without stutters on my old AMD XP 1800+ system, because the missing DRM does not require additional resources from the CPU during playback.
So, it should be also playable on Apple and Linux operating systems as well. But you have to use it without the menus, because of specific Microsoft-based proprietary developments.
Conclusion: Although the video quality does not reach the level of Bikini-Destination movies (Gallery) (which are no porn movies, but a bikini fashion show) broadcast in MPEG2/TS and 1080i, Island Fever 3 nevertheless is a good example of the most beautiful HD-pictures, in which the handsome people and the raw act itself become marginal. Inherently for not using and supporting DRM it should gain an extra award, because it makes handling easier.
All of you, who do not have to fear the wrath of their partner or are solo right now, can get this double DVD with a calm conscience and enjoy it in your home cinema, or just the normal NTSC-edition via DVD player.
In my X-Y chromosomes limited point of view, I can not tell, if this movie is appropriate for ladies, but it is definitely one of the better adult flicks, and I would almost say that women would watch it, too, but I can not guarantee it! (Ladies’ comments at the forum are explicitly desired).
Personally, I would like to get a porn movie with a resolution high enough to be able to count each single spermatozoon in every climax.
This DVD release is the first step in the right direction and I would like to get more movies in HD from Digital Playground and more publishers to follow them.
For all these reasons I award Island Fever 3 with "Porn excellence" and 5 out of 5 tissues. This rating is more of a joke and not an actual part of our review.

Porn Horn: When I got this double DVD set and it was lying there on my desk I asked my self how backwardly we are here in "good old europe" concerning HDTV up to this point in time, when Americans even produce and sell their porn movies in HD in the meantime. Even in this field, in which we Europeans were only able to keep up by doing even harder content, we are out-dated.
So, I am even happier, that this movie used neither DRM, nor region code, so that we can enjoy it, too.
But there is one question remaining to be answered: "How do I explain to my girl-friend, that I have to review a porn movie?"
Orgazmo Black: Finally you can watch porns for more than only one reason. Sure we're allowed to be curious about productions of this kind that will make use of the highest possible resolution of 1080 lines, but nevertheless Island Fever 3 as a current novelty deserves the rating "P0rn excellence", and thus five out of five tissues.
It's interesting to see that once again the erotic-industry marks the cutting edge, as Digital Playground doesn't throw sticks of the kind of DRM between their customers legs. It seems that there are a lot less thoughts about lashing the common customer. Lets hope that this will also be the case with further productions, and they'll also possibly switch from WMV to MPEG4/H.264. Because MPEG4 is not only a compression, but besides other features also enables platform independent menues like you know from todays video DVDs. Thus: Lets all assiduously P0rnbuy0ring, and disprais0r DRM. :)

Rogreviews.com: Island Fever 3 will be the first HD-movie available as a video-on-deman (VoD) paid download, or at least a longer scene. There is already a 15 second long sample in 720p as a testing material at adultdvdempire.com . So you can check, if your computer can handle a HD-movie. The video sample is just encoded in 3.98MBit, although the movie on the WMV-HD-DVD is encoded in 6.5 MBit. How the video sample differs from the final VoD-scene, we can not tell.
