DivX Inc. gives away free versions of its pro version of MPEG-4 codec DivX 6.8 during christmas season.
In a temporary time period free serial numbers will be send to each Windows or Mac user to register the codec.
After installation you have to send in a valid email addresse and you will receive a serial number afterwards and you can use the codec to "shrink" your videos.
This action doesn't include the integrated DivX Converter ánd MPEG-2/DVD-Plug-in, that can still be used as a trial for 15 day.
Additionally there is the Yahoo Toolbar included, but it can be deactivated and doesn't have to be installed, because it has no use for the encoding purposes.
The new version got a more efficient support fpr multi-core processors and still offers profiles up to HDTV 1080p.
It is still unclear how long this action period wil last and how many registration numbers will be send.
The regular program package costs aprox. 20 Euros outside this Holidy Special.
