1.1 Guide for mini-Blu-ray-Disc Authoring

1.1.0 Introduction

This instruction leads step by step through the creation of own Blu-ray discs. This process uses regular blank DVDs(Single/Double Layer) as storage medium, to create Blu-ray Discs that can be playbacked on Standard Blu-Ray Players and on the Playstation3.
This tutorial enfoldes two different ways to get to a nearly similar result.
The first, and more easy-going path, needs less programs and includes the fewest work steps. You will get a really stable result.
The second way requires more worksteps but it has been the base for the development of the second and might be interesting for everybody who wants to understand the technics behind the authoring and/or already have the required software packages.
The AVCHD-identifier and structure on the DVD is important, because the Playstation3 doesn't accept a Blu-ray identifier on a DVD-9 and therefore thinks whether the disc is a standard data-DVD.

1.1.1 Path 1.)

1.1.1.1 Requirements

To create a mini Blu-ray Disc after path 1.) the following is required:

• a videofile *.m2ts with one videotrack (MPEG-2, H.264 or VC-1) and several audiotracks OR a HDTV-recording in MPEG-2 1080i or 720p (*.mpg or *.ts). The sourcefile might be a AVCHD- or HDV-camera recording, a recording of a HDTV broadcast or out of some other compliant sources.

Additionally the following programs and files are required:

• TsRemux 0.0.16 (Freeware)
• HDBDSplitGUI 1.0.0.2
• Nero Burning Rom
• the file AVCHD_leer.zip (AVCHD_empty)

1.1.1.2 Step-by-step Guide

1. Load the m2ts-File or the MPEG2-File in TSRemux. Here you can select the videotrack and the audiotrack you want. Additionally you can also select subtitles. As the output format you choose M2TS.

Because it is not visible in TSRemux which audiotrack contains which language, it is easier to get on with working this way. Otherwise you will have to remux the complete film twice or more times, and this takes a long time:

• mark one audiotrack with a notch, press the right mouse button and select "Demux Dolby Digital Audio Stream to elementary stream"
• the demux process can be cancelled after a few seconds and you can have a short hear in the AC3 file (do not cancel the demux process after 1-2 seconds, at the beginning of a film theres normally nobody speaking a lot)

2. Load the new remuxed m2ts File in HDBDSplitGUI 1.0.0.2 and split it on DVD-size. For a DVD+R Double Layer blank DVD the setting "Split 8050" has been tested as the optimum. HDBDSplitGUI 1.0.0.2 creates several new files (part 0001.m2ts - part 000x.m2ts).

3. Now just load the part0001.m2ts in TSRemux, select the Video-and Audiostream, as outputformat choose "Blu-Ray". TSRemux creates now a Blu-ray structure of the 1.part of the film.

4. Unpack the file "AVCHD_leer.zip" (AVCHD_empty). You will get the folder structure for the AVCHD-Disc.

5. Now open Total commander and select on the one side the created Blu-Ray Disc and on the other side the empty AVCHD-Disc. Just copy the folders "Clipinf", "Playlist" and "Stream" into the AVCHD folder.

6. The next step is to open Nero Burning ROM. Select "DVD-ROM(UDF)" below Options select "Manuelle Einstellungen" -> "UDF2.50" and press the "New" button.

7. Burn the folder "BDMV" with the whole content out of the folder "AVCHD" on a blank DVD.

That's it. The so far created DVD (AVCHD) runs on a PS3.

1.1.2.2 Step-by-step Guide

1. Search in the folder \BDMV\STREAM the m2ts File, that contents the film, or another compliant video file. Load this file in TS Remux. Here you can select the desired video & audiotrack. Additionally you can also select some/a subtitle(s). As the output format just select M2TS.

2. Load the newly remuxed m2ts File in HDBDSplitGUI 1.0.0.2 and split it on DVD-size. For a DVD+R Double Layer blank DVD the setting "Split 8050" has been tested as the optimum. HDBDSplitGUI 1.0.0.2 creates several new files (part 0001.m2ts - part 000x.m2ts).

3. Now just load the part0001.m2ts in TSRemux, select the conforming video- and audiostream, select output format "blu-ray" and "remux". TSRemux creates now a Blu-Ray structure of the first part of the videofile.

The created Blu-ray-structure can only be playbacked using a PS3 when you burn it on a blank blu-ray. Burned on a blank DVD+/-R (DL) in the UDF 2.5 format, the PS3 only recognizes a data-dvd. Therefore you have to use the following trick and create a AVCHD disc with nerovision. The trick needs to be done, because Nerovision always reencodes the videostuff and converts it into H.264, when you load the videofile directly.

4. Open Nerovsion -> Create DVD - > AVCHD

5. Add Videofile.
It is sufficient when you take a pretty short clip (about 10 seconds length are enough) to hold the transcoding time low. This clip only serves as a "dummy" file and is not needed later on.

6. Select "next" and you will get to the page where you can create a menu. Select "create no menu".

7. With "next" you will get to the page "burning options", insert a DVD-RW and just klick "burn".

It is important, that you finish the burning process up to the end as Nerovision puts into its temporary files folder (that can be configured using the options dialogue in nerovision) the folder strucutre of the AVCHD.

!!Important!! Do NOT close Nerovision after a successful burning process, otherwise the temporary folders are lost.

8. It might get now a little bit weird as Nerovision names its files different from TSRemux.

Therefore it is necessary to edit the Blu-Ray, created with TSRemux, first:

• in the Folder Stream rename the file 0001.m2ts into 00000.m2ts.
• in the folder CLIPINF rename the file 00001.clpi into 00000.clpi.
• As in file 00000.mpls there is a link pointing to file 0001.m2ts, you will have to edit this link with a hexeditor into 00000.m2ts. Don't forget to store.

10. Now insert a blank DVD into your drive and select in the still opened Nerovision "Burn this project again". Just confirm the upcoming dialogue.

Nerovision doesn't the background manipulation and burns the complete DVD (AVCHD).

Note: By now dmz01 has made the method with TSRemux 018 much more easier. He has implemented the creation of the Blu-Ray into the AVCHD identifier. Now you only have to load the m2ts-,TS- or MPEG- File into TSRemux 018 and it creates a Blu-Ray with all folders that you only have to burn in UDF 2.50 mode with Nero on a DVD.
