Video-game: Fallout 3 with high-definition content specially made for trailers
Video-game: Fallout 3 with high-definition content specially made for trailersEx Washington D.C.
Known for its dark vision of the future after a nuclear war, for its freedom of action and its dark humour, the latest third part of the video-game series "Fallout" will be in European stores by 31st of october.
During the marketing campaign two trailers were released.
The first teaser-trailer showed a high-definition, but rather short prospect of a destroyed Washington D.C. as capitol of a no longer existing United States. All this was rendered by game-engine and the video is accompanied with a song "I don't want to set the World on fire" and it ends with the words "WAR, war never changes", which had been used in all "Fallout" parts.

A second trailer was kept in 50's styled advertizement, where a typicall but exaggerated family situation at the dining table is shown and a salesman of fictitious nuclear vault manufacturer "Vault-Tec"is promoting the advantages of these habitats in case of the imminent threatening nuclear emergency.
This trailer is also in high-definition and widescreen aspect-ratio, but presents the vaul-tec part with real actors in 4:3 aspect-raio, like it was done in cinemas and in emerging television in this periode. Consideration of old technologies and integration in some kind of retrosetting is also obvious, like the hint of everthing fitting to a nuclear war.

So you get a glimps of a newspaper article obout a chinese invasion of Alaska, that is part of the background story, or the usage of foods with names like "Sugar Bombs", that has a logo in form of the first american nuclear warheads. There is also usage of additional subtitles, which are typical for american educational films, that the shown nuclear explosion and mushroom cloud are not actually real ones, and even short cartoon sequences with "Vault-Boy" are implemented.
After the advertizement block the camera zooms out an old tube telly, wides the frame to the real used widescreen aspect-ratio of the video and scenes directly done in game-engine are shown.

Video-games are advertized more and more with high-definition videos, that are set together from gaming-sequences and are taken diretctly from the game. For "Fallout 3" the developer Bethesda Game Studios exclusively shot these scenes for these ads. The Teaser-Trailer was done with the game-engine, but according to the developers it hasn't been discussed to use and integrate it for the game.
The second trailer with real actors had just been shot for marketing purposes and won't be in the game. This effort hadn't been taken before for an ad in the gaming industry. Both trailers are available in 720p29.96 on the developers website.

The game itself is able to display high-definition graphics, but minimum system requirements hasn't been published yet. Bethesda promotes this feature on their official FAQ-site and once again in a sarcastic but fitting way.

* Eye-Popping Prettiness!* – Witness the harsh realities of nuclear fallout rendered like never before in modern super-deluxe HD graphics. From the barren Wasteland, to the danger-filled offices and metro tunnels of DC, to the hideous rotten flesh of a mutant’s face.

*Protective Eyewear Encouraged.

Videospiel: Fallout 3 TrailerHro in Game-Graphics
Further details depending the system requirements, the maximum resolution and audio isn't available yet and will be published soon. Fallout 3 uses an upgraded game-engine from Bethesda's previous game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion". This is already able to to generate hdtv-conform resolutions up to 1920*1080 in real widescreen. In widescreen mode (16:9) the player gets a small more horizontal view, that isn't possible with some other games, because the standard 4:3 image is just stretched to 16:9 with optical tricks.

More information about Fallout 3 is available on the official site or on Wikipedia, and when the final game will be released on 31st if october. Because of its violent content, the game will get a German USK and a PEGI of 18+ and will only be buyable by adults.
