Notice: This tutorial deals about how to convert a television recording in h.264 format and TRP-container and it has been checked on recordings taken from Vantage HD 7100S receiver. The H.264TSCutter program can also convert recording in REC-format, but it couldn't been tested because of lack of a recording possibility (Topfield).

1.0 Introduction

During our test of the personal videodisk recorder and HDTV-receiver Vantage HD 7100S one of our mentioned points was recording and storing in the TRP-format and a maximum file-size of 1.5GB, so that the file needs to be slitet if exceeding this limit. TRP is also a container-format for television-channel transportstreams, but its internal form differs from that of the most commenly used TS-format, so that not any software-player can play or merge this files.
This tutoials shows how to convert this as TRP-format recorded and in h.264 coded films and series and and directly connected how to merge the splitted files. After follwoing the complete guide the converted files can be played with almost all players and a lot of video-editing tools can cut them.

1.1 Guide

Chose "Tools - Convert TRP/REC -> TS" and chose the file you want to convert and merge afterwards.

"Transportstream (*.trp, *.rec)" is set as defaul file-type and just one file is displayed, although it was splitted in several files. The existence of the remaining can be checked by choosing "All Files (*.*)" under "Dateityp". But just the first, previously displayed file to be selected and H.264TSCutter automatically finds the attached files and is going to merge them, too.

After the recording-selection two small notice-windows pop up. The first is still paused converting-window and the last one is the cause of this pause, because the wanted Audio- and Videostreams in the original TRP-file has to be selected first.

The wanted video- and audiostream can easily be checked or unchecked. In first case the recording just contains one video- and also one audiostream. This is a recording taken from Pro7 HD, where just a single audiotrack as Dolby Digital had beend broadcasted.
The latter is our test-mux, that contains more audiostreams. These all doesn't need to be real audiotracks, bt can be videotxt or additional datastreams.

Afterwards the path to the storagefolder and the name for the upcoming TS-file can be chosen.

Now the converting and merging needs quite a while a informs you when it is finished.

Both VideoLAN Client as well as ZoomPlayer recognize all audio-tracks after convertion to TS and are able to play the h.264 coded videos, that wasn't possible for these players before, but only with KMPlayer.
