Our user hd-addict used our "Submit News" Function to let us know about:
"The fight between HD DVD and Blu-ray was tiresome almost before it began, and with some analysts saying that the winner in that war will decide the console war, much is at stake. Everyone is looking for the biggest movie to bring to their format to give themselves an edge, and it doesn't get much bigger than the HD DVD release of the Matrix Trilogy. Microsoft is sweetening the deal as well: pick up the trilogy and receive a free download of the Animatrix via Xbox Live." [...]

"The news from Stateside is that the HD DVD Promotional Group is kicking off a new promo campaign, led by a $100 (£50) rebate on some Toshiba HD DVD players.
In US terms, that brings the price down to $299.99 (£150). The offer applies to the Toshiba HD-A2 HD until June 16, but for the last week it will apply to all players. Even more attractive is that consumers over there will also get to choose five free HD DVD movies from the following:
Apollo 13, Seabiscuit The Chronicles of Riddick, Casablanca, Constantine, Dukes of Hazzard,
Four Brothers, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Rundown, Blazing Saddles, U2: Rattle and Hum, U-571, The Perfect Storm, We Were Soldiers" [...]

The popular social news site Digg.com is suffering from what appears to be a user revolt in response to the deletion of several articles revealing the encryption keys for HD-DVD, which would allow individuals to remove the copyright protection from HD-DVD's. Users or hackers are posting article with links to the codes. At approximately 1:40 a.m [Eastern time] Digg.com was no longer online but shortly after returned online with a message from Kevin Rose, Digg's founder, who said that he will not delete any more articles that contain the code.

Mini HD-DVD: The Official AVS Guide to HD-DVD Authoring
This guide will take you through the creation of your own HD-DVDs step by step. This process uses regular DVD recordables (and double layer DVD recordables) to create HD-DVD discs that will play on a standard HD-DVD player (such as the Toshiba A1 or XA1). At present, high definition MPEG2 files at resolutions of 1920x1080i, 1440x1080i (HDV) and 1280x1080i work without additional conversion within the software. 1088i and 720p are now supported with the addition of HDPatch, a simple but powerful utility by texmex. See below for specific instructions if your files are 720p or 1088i (i.e. DirecTV).

"Speaking with Ars Technica, Microsoft Director of Platform Strategy Scott Henson explained that the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive would likely never be internalized into a future version of the console because "[we] don't want to charge customers $200 extra for something that may be the next Betamax."."
