Hi,
does anybody know why YouTube added their hd-support so late?
I can not image, that they just did it for the users only. The avarage user doesn't give a shit about hd in youtube, he want it fast and with a decent quality.
that's all to fullfill its basic needs. |

It's not really HD either. It's just higher quality. If you want real HD video, use vimeo. I have all my stuff posted out there. If you pay extra, they use a two pass encoder when down-sampleing it for streaming. It looks really nice.
I like viemo a lot better anyway because everything is required to be user generated content. No advertisements, news broadcasts or gaming videos. The quality of the content is better and even their standard def stuff looks so much better.

hi sumdog,
I realy like vimeo, that's why we have accounts there and an own group http://vimeo.com/groups/2096 but they still have some points I miss. e.g. I want to have subtiltes, because we are a multilanguage site and I don't want to upload a video more times than need, if I could just add some translated subtiltes for one video. the other thing is, that I'm just allowed to uploadone hd video per, but that's a mino point. the quality is better, than comparedto youtube, but thereI can use subtitles and can upload as much as I want per week. the quality is not as good as vimeo, but it's still better now .
greets, Andreas |

we could argue whether or not it's real hd (720p), because I can understand, that they want to keep at least one eye on traffic and if they will do that with 5mbit or more, than the wires would burn. youtube is very slow right now, so that could make it even slower.
I know vimeo, but some of their rules are strange. why isn't it allowed to upload gaming videos, but instead there are a lot of REALY boring or badly made videos. if I would pay for that service, I would'nt like others saying me, what I can do or not do (besides sticking to laws and not uploading 18+ rated content. |
